Uppsala University hereby declares the following position open for applications at the Department of Philosophy: PhD in Philosophy with specialisation in Philosophy of Law.

Post-graduate studies extend over a 4-year period. The accepted PhD-student will hold an employment as a PhD candidate (“doktorandanställning”) for 4 years full-time where the starting salary currently is 24 400 SEK/month. The position is a proper employment the holder of which qualifies for the standard Swedish social benefits, such as paid parental leave. Doctoral students are expected to engage in their studies full-time, and to contribute as well as to participate in the activities of their department. The position might also entail teaching and other assignments, at the most 20% of full time. The positions are available from 2016-11-01.

Please note that admission for the PhD at Uppsala University is highly competitive and that a Master Degree in the Humanities or Sciences or equivalent at the time of application is a prerequisite for a successful application. For the PhD position in Philosophy of Law, an LL.M. or equivalent will also be considered appropriate.

Your application should include (a) a brief CV, outlining your academic progress to date; (b) a statement outlining your proposed research (4-5 pages);  (c) a copy of your MA thesis (and/or examinated theses at other academic levels); and (d) publications and other relevant documents the applicant wishes to refer to (e.g. writing sample). Reference letters are not required.

The candidates applying for the PhD position in Philosophy of Law will take part in the project ”CIVIS SUM” financed by Wallenberg Foundation. The project focuses on migration and rule of law practices in the EU: The project compares a broad set of legal provisions, including access to territory, legal stay, residency, naturalisation and franchise, in EU member states. Working language is English. Skills in Swedish and/or other European languages appreciated. M.A. in philosophy, political science, or social sciences; LL.M. appreciated. Applicants are most welcome to submit research proposals addressing the field of comparative citizenship policy or topics related to above-mentioned.
